House. Probably C18, extended to S and generally remodelled in
mid C19, minor alterations and windows, front door and rear bays
probably c1906. A large 2 storeys timberframed plastered house
with low pitched hipped slate roofs, facing W. The older N part
as 4 windows with a Doric pillared porch with open pediment under
the 3rd window from N. Doublepile plan with chimneys rising from
the valley between parallel roofs. Small-paned casement windows
with louvred shutters. Rear has 5 windows with gabled porch on
fluted columns under 4th window from N. 2-light wooden casements
with louvred shutters. Large projecting bow to Ground floor on
right. 2 storeys, 2 windows, S extension continues W front but
with sash windows with 2/2 panes and louvred shutters. Pyramidal
hipped roof with square central chimney. S end wall
weatherboarded. Large projecting bow to Ground floor rear with
2-light casements. Brick retaining wall and square piers
supporting wrought iron gates at front. The Tithe Map of 1842
(HRO) marks this building, but the name Mead Lodge was then
attached to a now demolished house on the N side of Eastwick Road
in Eastwick parish. An interesting C18 house elaborated in C19.
