Hunsdon village
7/28 Nos 73, 75 and
77 (Hunsdon
24.1.67 Village Stores)
GV II
4 houses, now three, C17, S half probably earlier. Timber frame,
white weatherboarded over a red brick plinth. Steep old red tile
roof gabled at N but half-hipped at S. A block of 1½ storeys,
formerly 4 cottages and a double-width shop, now 3 properties.
Nos 73 and 75 at S appear to have originated as a 3-unit central
chimney house with a 2 storeys parlour at the S end and a floor
inserted in the remainder with 2 dormers to light the upper
floor. The N part appears to be a later building between gable
chimneys. 3 taller gabled dormers and unequal division of the
Ground floor. Total 7 window front with shallow square bay
window on left and 6-panelled doors. Lefthand house has a low
flush box sash window of 12/12 small panes under the eaves. The
shop at the Nend has a central half-glazed door up 2 steps with
moulded architrave and moulded cornice. It is flanked by 3 x 3
paned Cl9 shop windows. 3 2-light casement dormer windows. A
picturesque C17 timberfrmed weatherboarded range. An essential
feature in the varied group at this part of the Conservation
Area.
