House. Probably C15 in origin, rebuilt early C17 and c1800. Walls to front are
rebuilt in brick but there is said to be some timber framing. Cross wing to
right has ashlar quoins and gable copings with small pine-cone finial. Massive
chimney of dressed stone at left end. Plain tiled roofs, rebuilt brick chimney
between left bays. L-plan with outshot to rear. 2 storeys and attic; 3-bay
front with right bay gabled and projecting. Left bays were rebuilt c1800 and
have small paned wooden windows with glazing bars. Opening lights are
horizontal sashes. Ground floor has 4-light transomed windows with cambered
heads; first floor has 3-light window to left, 4-light in moulded frame to
right, and 2-light to centre. Central 6-panelled top-lit door in wooden archi-
trave frame. Left gable end has massive C15-C16 external chimney, and door
beyond in C20 lean-to porch. Right bay rebuilt early C17, with rendered chimney
to right side. Front gable has wooden window as in left bays, 3-light to lower
floors, 2-light to attic. Upper windows retain C17 stone window surrounds with
cyma recta cornices. Similar stone surrounds without cornices survive in left
return Interior not inspected at time of resurvey 1986, but list description of
1960 records following features: C16 moulded ceiling beams in ground floor room
to centre; C17, or possibly C16 spiral stair with brick treads; large open fire-
place, partly blocked, with wooden lintel at left end; roof trusses of extremely
massive tie beams formerly over open hall.
