House. C17, extended at ends probably in C18, W wing 1970s. Timber frame
on low sill, roughcast, lower extensions dark weatherboarded, steep
thatched roof carried down as hips over end extensions. Linked W wing
dark weatherboarded with steep pitch hipped red tile roof. A picturesque
1½-storeys house isolated in a clearing, facing S with L-shaped
1½-storeys newer wing linked to W end and extending to S. A 2-cells,
internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan with single-storey extension at each
end, and small rear extension to W bay. This seems to have been the hall
with axial beam supporting exposed joists of floor. Axial joists only in
E bay. Winding stair to rear of stack entered from W room. S front has 2
2-lights dormers at eaves, 2 3-lights casement flush windows flanking
plank door, and 2-lights casement to each end extension. E one has
lattice leaded plate casements. Interior has exposed timbers, long
tension braces in walls, clasped-purlin roof, and IL hinges to doors.
The central tie-beam now encased in chimney, suggesting chimney (and
possibly upper floor) a secondary feature.
