GV II

Block of 2 houses. Probably 1872 (backing onto dated Crusader
Cottage in Church Lane in similar style: 'IH' on quatrefoil
stone in gable for John Hodgson, owner of Gilston Estae who died
1882). Complex, 2 storeys, white brick block of 2 Gothic estate
houses facing E. Steep slate roofs with bargeboards and tall
white brick chimneys with triple shafts. Front has gabled cross
wing on left hand and gabled timber porch in angle. Windows have
stone lintels and sills and 2-light cast iron lattice casements,
4-panel flush beaded doors. A picturesque pair of white brick
Gothic estate houses, little altered. Probably contemporary with
Crusader Cottage to W and part of group of picturesque Gothic
buildings by the Gilston Estate in the village centre.
