House. C16, internal chimney mid C17, projecting W wing c.1960. E
extension 1962. Timber frame cased in red brick, red brick extensions
with tilehung upper part to W wing. Steep old red tile roofs, W wing
hipped. Old part in middle of 1 1/2-storeys facing S with central narrow
chimney-bay flanked by a wider bay to E and W, each with one window and
one gabled dormer at eaves to front and rear. E extension of similar
form with one window and front dormer. Entrance into W bay by battened
door under gabled open timber porch. Large chimney of narrow brick with
triangular projecting rib or front, rises in front slope of roof against
the ridge. 2-light flush casement leaded windows with segmental arches
to ground floor. Wide, rectangular 2-storeys W wing has external side
chimney, and projects to front and rear. Interior has exposed timber
frame with curved tension braces, wide-spaced studs, chamfered beams and
squared joists, clasped-purlin roof on collar-and-queen-strut trusses
with curved wind-braces. Evidence for inserted floor, and later
lobby-entry by chimney.
