House and malting, now a private house. C17 or earlier, early C18 brick
front, renovated and S bay added on site of former end lean-to c.1960s.
Timber frame now exposed only in rear wall and inside, frame of former S
gable reconstructed with fancy patterned brick infill as new extended S
gable. Red brick front chequered with grey headers, deep plaster coved
eaves cornice to steep old red tiled roof. A 5-windows long, 2 storeys,
cellar and former attics house facing W on a prominent corner site.
Originally a 3-cells, central chimney, lobby-entry plan house with stair
in turret behind stack. W front has 5 2-light casement windows to the
1st floor, pattern of 2 large lozenges in grey headers to RH of window
opposite chimney, brick plat-band interrupted for a doorcase of former
door opposite chimney under 2nd window from N end. Entrance now into N
bay by glazed door in glazed screen under a carved beam. 4 ground floor
windows recessed and 3-light wide casement windows with transoms.
Interior has wide open-fireplaces back-to-back, axial chamfered beams,
chamfered joists with hollow stops in bay to S chimney (cellar under
this bay), exposed frame and timbering in walls and stair tower. Said to
have had cruck blades built into former S wall now removed.
