Former house, extended to form 2 dwellings. Late C16 or early C17,
extended late C17 and C19, altered C20. Timber frame, extended in brick
rendered and roughcast. Tiled roof. Core is right section of No. 48 and
possibly part of No. 46, extended to left and rear in C17. 2 storeys.
No. 48 has 2 windows with a central projecting hipped entrance porch,
flanking 2 light casements. Nos. 44 and 46 to right have 2 windows with
entrance to left of centre, ground floor 2 light casements and a blocked
entrance now a single light casement. First floor: horizontal sliding
sash to left, 2 light casement to right. Original ridge stack between
Nos. 46 and 48. C19 left end stack. External stack at right end of No.
46. 2 storey late C17 gabled wing to rear of No. 48, casements, exposed
purlins. Catslide roof over French windows to left. 2 gabled wings to
rear of No. 46, that to left brick with cambered heads to casements,
that to right weatherboarded timber frame with a C20 1 storey extension.
Interior: No. 48 has ground floor stop chamfered binding beam, jowled
posts to clasped purlin roof, windbraces, braces in walling, frame to
original diamond mullioned window in rear wall. No. 46 interior not
inspected.
