Description

LOWER HOLKER B5278
SD 37 NE
(West side) Holker
5/130 Park View Cottages
G.V. II
Stables, now cottages. Probably before 1797, converted to houses in C19.
Roughcast imitating dressed stone, slate roof. East elevation of 2 storeys,
7 bays, the central bay breaking forward under gable. Windows have 2-light
casements with iron glazing bars in octagon and square pattern common to the
Holker estate, but 2 windows to ground floor of 4th bay are plain glazed. Most
windows to ground floor are segmental headed. 1st floor has cross casements to
central bay and 2nd and 6th bays, the 2 latter under gablets. Entrance to 2nd
and 4th bays have board doors with ornamental hinges and lean-to open porches
with hexagonal slate roofs and latticework sides. Rear similar, with 2-bay
hipped projection. Given a more picturesque appearance, probably in the mid
C19, to match the rest of the village.
