Cark Hall (q.v.)
G,V. II
Summer house. Probably late C17 or early C18. Stone rubble with quoins.
2-storey square structure, for many years roofless. East face has entrance with
lintel, 1st floor has window with moulded reveals and escutcheon with initials:
CR to lintel, originally cross-mullioned. South face has blocked 3-light
single-chamfered-mullioned window with dripstone to ground floor; 1st floor has
window with slightly chamfered reveals and transom, originally cross-mullioned.
North and west faces have 1st floor windows, originally cross-mullioned.
Initials believed to refer to Christopher Rawlinson (1677-1733), a noted
antiquarian, who lived at Cark Hall. See J.C. Dickinson, The Land of Cartmel,
1980, pp76 and 77.
