House. Early to mid-C18, with later additions. Sandstone rubble, with
facade of brick with ashlar dressings. Hipped slate roof. A symmetrical
composition of two storeys with attic and five bays, with chamfered quoins
and modillion cornice. The three central bays break forward, under a ped-
iment, and are flanked by chamfered quoins. Within the sandstone plinth
are basement windows, with segmental heads, to all except the central bay.
The other windows have segmental gauged brick heads with keystones and are
sashed with glazing bars. Within the pediment is a diocletian window.
To each side of the facade there is a single-storey wing with parapet.
The right-hand one has a canted projection containing a sashed window
with round head and Gothick glazing. To its right is the present doorway
within a doorcase with bracketted hood, extensively renewed c1960. Chimneys
to right and left of main block. The rear of the house appears to be later,
possibly c1800, and is of three bays. On the ground floor is an arcade of
round arches, now infilled and containing sashed windows, whose original
purpose is unknown. Interior: contains oak dog-leg stair with open string,
three turned balusters to each tread, and ramped handrail.
