House. Circa 1700. Sandstone ashlar with hipped tilt roof. A symmetrical
composition of two storeys with attic and with three bays to each side of
centrepiece. Facade has plinth, two bands, and coved eaves. Windows are
boxed sashes with glazing bars. The three attic dormers are gabled. The
six-panelled door is set within a doorcase (said to be "modern" by RCHM)
with architrave, triglyph frieze, and segmental pediment. On the first
floor is an oval panel with cherub heads, a dove, and an open book inscribed:
"Dominus illuminatio mea". Chimneys to left and right, behind ridge. To
the rear are two wings, the northern one rendered, the southern one straight-
jointed and apparently later than the front range. Interior: some chamfered
ceiling beams. Dog-leg stair has closed string, turned balusters, and newels
with ball finials. On the first floor landing is a plaster ceiling with
moulded border and with fleurs-de-lis in the corners. (RCHM, p 211).
