Barn, stables and cow shelter. Probably C18 with late C19 alterations.
Barn: timber-framed with weatherboards and slate roof, three bays aligned
roughly east/west and central full height ledgeddoors to south side.
Stables: are attached to west side of barn: timber-frame with some
weatherboards and some late C19 brick rebuildings, plain tiled roof. Ledged
door in left weatherboarded bay, stable doors under segmental head to central
brick bay and further ledged door to right bay. L-plan cow shelter to south
of stables forms a U-plan courtyard; rubble with single-lapped slate roof,
3:3 open bays with plain posts; cider mill in corner bay; segmental-headed
rear entrance from west. Interior: barn has raking struts from ties to
collars; thin scantling to wall frames, square panels immediately under
wall-plates and beneath them rectangular shaped double-height frames with
diagonal braces. A picturesque farmyard group. Downfield House (formerly
Busy Hill) is not included on this list.
