Amyatt's Terrace

2.
Circa 1830. Terrace of six 2 storey double fronted cottages. No 6 is
set back at east end and does not form part of terrace composition. The
elevations are stuccoed, the walls raised with plain coping to conceal
eaves of gable end slate roof. Nos 1 and 5 break forward slightly. The
central house (No 3) has flanking banded pilaster strips with ball finials
and a pediment also crowned by ball finial. Shallow 2 storey canted bays
flank front, sash lights with glazing bars and panelled aprons. A verandah
links them on the 1st floor. Nos 1, 2, 4 and 5 have sash windows, glaz-
ing bars intact, in moulded flush frames. No 1 has hood moulds over win-
dows. No 4 has Venetian shutters. Originally each house had a 4 panel
door and a cornice hood on shaped brackets. This survives on No 5 but
the others have had porches added. No 6 set back from terrace proper,
is also stucco faced with half hipped slate roof and shallow eaves cornice.
2 window front with central doorway. 2-light casements with glazing bars.
Later porch with bayed front, glazed sides and hipped slate roof. The
terrace is in an important position in relation to Coburg Terrace, Coburg
Road on the opposite side of the Tennis Courts, and to the open grouping
of this part of the town.

Nos 1 to 6 (consec) Amyatt's Terrace form a group.
