Formerly the Clifton Hotel which was partly destroyed by fire soon after
World War II. Gable end slate roof replaces thatch. The west end to
road has been built up to 2 storeys with gable. Sea front retains part
of original 2 storey elevation, stuccoed. 3 windows, the outer ones in
slightly bowed bays. Modern Georgian canopies to doorways. 4 windows
on 1st floor and 3 on ground floor to Peak Hill Road, sashes with glazing
bars. The house forms part of a group, between the cliff edge and Peak
Hill Road at the west end of the Esplanade, that is one of Sidmouth's
most characteristic features.
