Farmhouse, part of the Powderham Estate. Circa 1830. Whitewashed rendered stone ;
slate roof, 2-span to the rear, hipped at ends, and hipped at end of wing ; 2 stacks
to each end, the front right stack projecting.
Plan: A large rectangular main block, double depth, 2 rooms wide with a central
entrance into a through passage containing the stair ; 2 principal rooms to the
front, kitchen to rear right with a service stair. A wing projecting from the right
end contains service rooms on the ground floor with accommodation over.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front to main block with a C19 panelled front
door with an attractive C19 lattice porch with pierced Gothic spandrels ; C19 2-light
casements, 3 panes per light. The right wing, set back, has a C19 2-light ground
floor casement below a C20 balcony with French windows. The rear elevation also has
a lattice porch to the rear door and C19 casements : the left return has one first
floor C18 window, probably re-sited.
Interior: C19 features survive including floor tiling to the passage ; 2 chimney-
pieces, one marble, one with reeded timber jambs ; joinery including panelled
shutters and a china cupboard in ground floor room left.
A substantial early C19 farmhouse, group value with the Old House (q.v.).
