Folly. Re-used medieval masonry from Burton Abbey and C19.
Coursed squared sandstone and sandstone ashlar. Irregular
rectangular plan, with a wall extending from one corner. Plain
pointed arch on three sides of a square tower-like structure
said to have been the 'porter's lodge'. Unmoulded arches.
Arrow slit on the fourth side. At the north east angle is a
diagonal buttress with two set-offs. Piece of walling to north
west with a half arch corbelled out to east. Built as a garden
ornament to Newton Park.
