Originally built as Beaulie Hall for the Bishop of Carlisle in the 13th Century. As a farm house it was occupied by the Earp family for almost 300yrs as tenants and owners. John Earp the Evangelist(1804-1883)was born in Beaulie Hall and became the best friend of Thomas Cook. The hall was rebuilt in 1822 and renamed Church House. When the Earps left the house in 1927, it became the Dower House to Melbourne Hall.
