Almshouses. Probably c1864 by W Butterfield. Brick plinth, timber-frame and plaster
upper, plain tile roof, brick and stone stacks. L-shaped building of 2 separate
parts, single storey, end onto road 4 bay range, at far end, starting behind it,
6 bay range. Front of shorter range symmetrical. Each side of centre canted bay
on plinth under gable with openwork bargeboards. Then 6-panel black and white
door under gabled hood with bargeboards. Each end 2-light casement. Roof hipped
at road end. In centre chimney of large rectangular gabled base, above smaller
rectangular stack with pilaster on each face in centre, and moulded head. Other range
exactly the same except that at end adjoining other part similar door and 2-light
casement in 1st bay and other bay behind 1st range, with plainer ridge stack
between.
