Pair of cottages. C16, Cl7, and late C18. Walls show timber-framing, brick and
stone, the roof is thatched,, A timber-framed late-medieval hall house, with floors
and fireplace added (early C17), then extended at each end and refaced (No.1 with
brick, No.2 with stone) in the C18. No.1 (at a lower level) 2 storeys, No.2
1 storey and attic, 2.2 windows. Roof hipped at the south end and brought to a
low eaves above an outshot, catslide at rear, eyebrow dormers (to No.2). The frame
is exposed in the upper part of No.1, with brick infill and other walling
(Flemish above English bond), No.2 has roughly squared chalkstone walls with
brick dressings; cambered openings to the ground-floor of each. Casements (a
window replaces the central door of No.2). Boarded doors. Inside (No.2) the
framing indicates the insertion of the 1st floor, and the attachment of the large
chimney breast to the south end of the building.
