House, formerly a watermill. C18 and mid C19. Brick, some bomding, with a slate
roof. A structure of 2 phases, meeting at a slight angle. The C18 north side is
a low 2 storeys, now with a low-pitched slate roof, hipped at the north end. The
front (east) wall is of red brickwork in header bond, the ground-floor comprising
an arcade of 6 openings, with oval arches, stone keys and impost bands (the 2
northernmost now filled with stonework and the westernmost plastered: above is a
½-dormer loft doorway with a window on each side. The wide north elevation of
this block is of malmstone, with brick dressing, and a central doorway with
flanking lunettes (and a C20 window above the door). The south side is a tall
block of 3 storeys and attic, 4 bays, the southernbay and the whole of the ground
floor having painted brick walls of English bond, with cambered openings, the
other walling being vertical boarding: the northernmost bay has an oversailing
gabled hoist, above doorways at 1st and 2nd floor. A roadway passes in front of
this elevation, with a bridge over the waterway (above the 2nd bay). The rear
of this block overlooks the widening mill race, and is of brickwork, with some
old small openings and large C20 openings, with cambered heads; casements.
