House and shop. Core is early C17 but extended to front and rear in late C18 or
early C19. Timber-framed core, refronted in C18 brickwork, painted to rear and
stuccoed to front with incised lines to imitate masonry. Hipped old tiled roof.
2 storeys, 1 window. Front elevation has first floor 3-light canted bay with
vertical glazing bars and horns. Modillion eaves cornice. Ground floor has C19
shopfront with moulded cornice to fascia and 2-light shopfront with iron grille
beneath. Rear elevation has early C19 horizontally sliding sash. Side elevation
has 1 exposed charred beam. Some early brickwork near base as well as C18 brick-
work. Interior: first floor has axial beam with lambs-tongue stops. Large brick
chimneybreast. Roof structure not seen but smoke blackened timbers repainted and
also remains of hoist. On the strength of this thought to have been a merchant's
house.
