Farmhouse. c1869, but containing some C18 brought in features and probably a
small C18 core. Built of red brick in Flemish bond with 2 bands of black
bricks. Tiled roof with alternate courses of plain and fishscale tiles and
terracotta ridge tiles. 2 brick chimneystacks. 2 storeys and attics. 3
windows. South west front has 2 large gables with fretted bargeboards with
pendants and finials. Attic storey has 2 pointed casements, 1st floor has 3
casements and ground floor has 2 three light canted bays. Central doorcase has
early C19 1/2 glazed door with Gothic lights and wooden porch with fretted barge-
boards finial and pendants. 2 casements to side elevations. Rear elevation
has 3 cables and central brick and tiled porch. Interior has kitchen with
octagonally set brick breadoven and adjoining fireplace with some original
ironmongery. Elaborate early C18 wooden staircase with 2 turned balusters to
each tread scrolled tread ends and fluted column newels thought to have come
from a demolished house in the vicinity called Stargroves. 2 early C18 wooden
architraves to doors in the staircase wall are also imported. Ground floor has
a mid C19 marble fireplace with arched pilasters and 1st floor has 2 mid C19
wooden fire surrounds with iron fire baskets.
