26.4.57 Garden Pavilion
I
Late C17, by John Webb. A 2-storeyed circular structure with a dome, capped by a small
lantern. There are four 2-storeyed projections, each with a pediment, pilasters set in
from the corners, an arched window above an arched doorway, 2 tiers of narrow arched
panels to the cheeks of the upper stage. The pediment has a curved moulding, a moulded
fascia above brick brackets follows round the building at eaves level, with another
moulded band beneath it, a set of base mouldings again surrounds the building at
first-floor level. The curving walls in their upper part have one arched panel above
another. The dome is covered with scalloped tiles, and the whole structure (apart from
plain stone keystones) is in red brickwork. A chimney flue is attached to the upper
part of one of the curved sections.
