GV II
1861 (1863). L-shaped ornamental cottage, in Gothic style. 2 storeys, the
upper floor being partly within the roof. Very steep slate roof, with ornamented
bargeboards, a spire above a projecting turret, 2 dormer gables on the south
side, outshots at a lower angle, leaded top to the oriel; shafted stack. Red
brickwork in Flemish bond, with black flush patterns, including vertical strings
of diapers and a dated (AD 1863) panel, plinth. The upper parts of 2 gables
the turret and a gabled (staircase?) block placed high with the roof angle,
are elaborately patterns in 1/2-timber-framing, with closely arranged narrow
timbers, including straight and curved struts, and curved open brackets sup-
porting the turret. Openings are square within and next to the timber-framing
but elsewhere become pointed arches and trefoil shapes (all different) filled
with patterned tile-hanging or stonework (one dated AD 1861), some pierced.
Casements, some mullions and transoms, on the north side a slender oriel. The
plain trefoil-headed doorway is beneath the projecting turret.
