Large house formerly incorporating Little Priors (q.v.), reputed to
be C16 but probably mid C17, altered late C18 or early C19.
Coursed squared and dressed limestone; stone slate and artificial
stone slate roofing; ashlar stacks, one restored with artificial
stone. Rectangular main body with later extension to the north-
west corner. Two storeys and attic. Almost symmetrical triple
gabled 5-windowed south front. Remains of plinth, part ashlar part
rubble to the left of the front door. Five 12-pane sashes with
plain architraves to the ground floor, five similar windows to the
first floor, single 6-pane sashes two with dressed stone surrounds
to each gable; blocked single-light window with an ovolo-moulded
surround and stopped hood to the central gable. Straight joints on
the ground and first floors indicate the positions of blocked
windows, probably ovolo-moulded stone mullions two of which survive
at the rear, suggest that the south front was refenestrated during
the late C18 or early C19. Central 6-panelled door now with 4
glazed panels within a restored concrete surround with pulvinated
frieze. Twelve-pane sash to the right gable end; smaller gable
set back to the right with a Venetian window to the first floor;
lean-to,extension with a C20 glass door below. C20 conservatory
set back at the north-west corner with central glass door flanked
by sash windows. Flat coping to the right gable end, stepped
coping and roll-cross saddles to the forward facing gables; single
large composite axial stack with four shafts and a moulded capping.
Interior substantially altered C18. The front right-hand room is
panelled with cusped decoration to the rail at the top of each
panel; fluted pilasters at intervals; the doors and shutters also
have cusped panelling; frieze with occasional strapwork panes;
two shell-headed corner alcoves. Small C18 fire-place with lugged
wood surround with floral swags and fluted decoration. Panelled
doors with lugged architraves throughout the ground floor. Ground
floor only inspected.
