II

Former inn with stables, now detached house. c1800. Coursed,
dressed limestone; brick rebuilt chimneys; concrete tile roof.
Three-storey; stable range on east side. North front: 2-window
fenestration off-centre to left, 16-pane sashes to ground and
middle floors - except single-storey canted bay window to right
with 4-pane sashes - 8-pane to upper floor. Doorway between with
6-panel door and rectangular light above. Large eaves-mounted
rebuilt chimney to right. Painted inn sign below: 'THE NELSON
INN - STROUD BREWERY / ALES AND STOUT / WINES & SPIRITS'. Stables
to left have stairs and casement fenestration to loft. West side:
central 16-pane sash window to ground floor: 3-light chamfered
mullioned casement with hoodmould to middle floor, 2-light above.
Doorway to right with 6-panel door. Lean-to outshut to rear with
corrugated iron roof. Interior not inspected. Built for canal
boatman from the nearby Thames and Severn Canal.
