19/239 Forwood Grange
II
Detached house. Late C17, rebuilt and enlarged mid C18; early Cl9
alterations. Roughcast rendered; ashlar chimneys; stone slate
roof. Three storey with rear outshut and outbuildings. East
front: mostly resulting from mid C18, four-window fenestration,
all with moulded stone architraves, keystones and bull-nosed sills;
2 windows with plain openings to ground floor. Variety of C19
casements, many with marginal glazing bars in Regency style.
Central doorway with Gibbs surround, partly obscured by C19 three-
bay openwork lattice verandah with Greek key fret pattern; glazed
Cl9 door with coloured glass margins. Central round arched niche
above with triple keystone to moulded architrave, imposts and
bracketed sill. Moulded parapet cornice forming low-pitched
central pediment with keyed oculus; blocking course above. Gable
end chimneys with moulded caps. Outshut to rear with catslide
roof, later infill linking with outbuildings. C20 porch addition
at north end. Interior not inspected but said to be Regency with
reeded doorcases and fireplaces. Dining room recorded as having
good contemporary cornices, windows having coloured glass paterae.
