Barn, stables with loft, dovecote and outbuildings. Early C18. Dressed squared
limestone, stone slate roofs, but glazed double Roman tile to dovecote blocks.
Central barn with deep projecting cart entry faced in horizontal boarding, this
flanked by outshut roofs at slightly steeper pitch; to left is long stable
block, and to right a 2-storey block with pigeon openings. The barn runs across
the end of a deep narrow courtyard. Barn has pair of large board doors with
boarding carried up into gable, and partly into attached outshuts. Each side
are 3 small oculi with floating cornices, the two at lower level in each case
with stone pigeon perch. Low left and right large plank doors in ovolo mould
stone surrounds. Wing, left, has flight of 8 stone steps to landing with deep
splayed each, to cross-gablet unit with plank door in ovolo-mould stone
surround. Outer gable has large glazed oculus over large plank door low left in
ovolo-mould stone surround. Wing, right has similar cross gable approached by
flight of 15 steps to landing as opposite. Left of this is a door and 2-light
ovolo-mould opening under stepped continuous hood, and right is a 3-light ovolo
mould casement with stopped drip. In gable 6 rows of square pigeon openings
with ledges, and at eaves on either side a single row. Gable end to house has
open cart shed at ground floor. Barn in 5 bays, C20 roof following mid C20
fire, various ventilation slits; flush opening far side. Stable block has some
stalls and retains hay-loft floor on heavy structure. The whole group,
practically unmodified except for barn roof, an important group adjunct to
