8/2 The Belvedere
II
Former summerhouse, in derelict condition at time of survey
(November 1984). Mid C19. Random coursed rubble stone with quoins,
slate roof. Single storey, with basement built into hillside. Main
facade to south inaccessible, but seen from the inside has 3 tall
arched openings with moulded architraves (central one largely
disappeared), and wide pointed arch below at basement level. The 2
sides also have one similar opening each at south end. Fireplace in
north west corner with carved mantel frieze and stone dolphin (?)
device (as on rainwater heads at Rose Hill School q.v.) over mantel
shelf. Plain straight headed entrance on east side, door missing.
