13/57 Weir between River Frome and
Kemmett Canal
II
Weir. Constructed c1759-60 by John Kemmett as part of Kemmett
Canal, small branch of River Frome constructed to by-pass Churchend
Mill (and others on River Frome) to carry freight up towards
Stroud. Weir was constructed of stone and timber, now with some
concrete repairs, over three arches for waterflow, and supported
crane used to haul goods from lower level canal basin on to River
Frome, the earliest recorded use of goods in containers. Included
for historical value.
