Detached house and adjoining converted barn (Barn Cottage). Early
C17 extended mid C20 in two phases and adjoining converted barn.
C17 range: pebble-dashed early-mid C20. Extensions; random
roughly squared limestone; stone slate roof; C20 squared and
dressed limestone stacks; red brick stack. Rectangular plan with
baffle entry to main body with C20 extension to both gable ends and
at right angles to rear; converted barn with projecting porch on
the north-east is linked via a covered passage to the right-hand
corner of the garden front. Main body: 2 storeys and attic later
extensions. 1 1/2 storeys and single storey. Twin-gabled garden
front lit by 2 and 3-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements
with stopped hoods and leaded panes. Central double glass door
with leaded panes within a hipped open-sided porch supported on two
massive tapering rectangular monoliths. Single-bay extension to
the right with a C20 two-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned
casement to the ground floor; similar casement to the half dormer
above. Rectangular bay window set back at the left gable end with
single-light and 4-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements.
Similar fenestration and some wooden casements to the extensions at
the rear. Access via early studded plank door with fleur de lys-
ended strap hinges set at the north-east corner of the C20
extension to the main body. The door lies within a moulded almost
flat Tudor-arched surround with an early lintel, with carved
spandrels bearing the initials 'R' and 'S', a gabled porch with
Tudor arched entrance. Barn Cottage: garden front with 2-light
wooden casements with timber lintels; upper floor lit by four 2-
light gabled half dormers. Axial and gable-end stacks. Interior
of The Dower House not inspected but reputed to have been
substantially altered C20.
