Inn. Core probably of late C16, recorded as an inn by mid C17,
enlarged to north in early C18 and again in later C18 or early C19.
Coursed rubble stone, with large tooled flush quoins and band to
left marking earliest section, mostly slate roof to front, stone
slate at right hand end, artificial stone slates to main part of
rear roof, slate on attached outbuildings, scattered brick stacks.
Long single front range with rear wing to right, infilled wing in
centre and outbuildings, former stables to left. Mostly 2 storeys
and attic. Oldest part to left originally of 2 storeys, at lower
level than adjoining part, with central chamfered stone Tudor
archway with renewed plank door and flanking small single lights
with splayed reveals. Two 12-pane sashes above with original thick
glazing bars, probably of C17, and curved wall of newel stair to
right with small 6-pane light, ending at tooled stone band. Raised
up to second floor with 2 later 12-pane sashes. Central section
has 4 gabled dormers through eaves with 6-pane sashes, and 4 early
12-pane sashes on first floor with thick glazing bars, 2 large
canted bays on ground floor probably of late C18 or early C19 with
sashes of 8/16/8-panes to left and 8/12/8 to right. Central
shallow, wide hipped porch with glazed double doors probably of
C20. To right, possibly originally a separate house now
incorporated with 2 gabled dormers on eaves and central dormer
through eaves with fixed 12-pane light. Dormers with paired
casements. Two 12-pane sashes on first floor. Early C20 square
bay to right on ground floor and small 12-pane probably in former
doorway to left. Interior retains many original chamfered beams
and chamfered joists on ground floor, and newel stair survives.
