House, bank barn and stable. Early C18 and later. Painted stone rubble,
outhouses not painted, slate roofs. House of 2 storeys and 2 bays, stable to
left and barn with cowhouse below adjoins at right angles to right. House has
casement windows and central entrance with slate gabled canopy. Stable has
entrance with flanking windows under slate dripcourse. Right hand end has small
re-entrant block to angle between house and barn, with wide-boarded door. Cow
house has 2 entrances flanking window, formerly entrance; pentice over, and
blocked winnowing door to upper level. Right return of stable has crow-stepped
gable and slate dripcourse; later lean-to extension. Rear of stable has garage
door at upper level, and lean-to extension. Rear of house has varied
fenestration. Barn has rear entrance with pentice and pivoted wide-boarded
doors. Interior of cow house has slate partitions in timber frames. Property,
of the National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
