- II
Farmhouse, 1738; Flemish bond brown brick; slate roof. 3 storeys; 3
windows. Plain painted stone band at 1st floor; moulded cornice.
Replaced 6-panel door with fanlight (glazing bars removed), in case
with pilasters and pediment. Flush 12-pane sashes have inset
dentilled architraves to sash-boxes; similar sashes of 6 panes to 3rd
storey; flat gauged brick arches in lower 2 storeys; central opening
in 3rd storey blocked, and with stone inset, inscribed W : SM : 1738.
The datestone appears to be inserted, in which case the farmhouse is a
little earlier. Flush gable chimneys. Small, recessed 2 storey
addition right, in keeping.
Interior: brick barrel vault to cellar under right room with stone
steps on brick risers and stone-flagged floor. Threes-panel doors in
lower storey; some oak beams with empty mortices which suggest the
floor has been re-joisted; oak purlins, some recently refaced.
