Terrace of 6 houses. This and the adjacent terrace (Nos 7-16 qv
ref 9/257) built for naval officers and their families. 1848,
designed by Charles Foord. Gault brick, Kent tile (and some
Welsh slate) roofs. A tripartite arrangement: 2 end blocks of
3 storeys containing 2 houses stand forward of 2 houses of 2
storeys. All houses of 2 window bays with basement and areas.
Identical features throughout: 4-pane horned sashes under
cambered window arches with stone sills on brackets; 4-panelled
doors with rectangular overlights; sill and cornice bands;
segmental-headed dormers; spear-headed railings to area. Large
axial stacks, truncated to No 6. Only No 1 has lost its sashes,
replaced by louvres. This and Nos 7-16 are a remarkably intact
terrace for their date.
