House, now three cottages. C17 and C18, perhaps with
earlier core. Dressed stone and brick with stone dressings
and stone slate roof. Rectangular plan with the main
doorway now opening to the west into an enclosed courtyard.
Roughly 5 bays with 3 storeys, attic and basement, the
brickwork is a facing to what was formerly a stone building
which may well have embodied a timber framed hall which
stood on the site in 1600. The main door, (bay 4) has
panelled pilasters, a 3-pane overlight, a flat hood and a 6-
panel door. Stone plinth and scattered fenestration which
includes various casements and sashes. The south gable is
the oldest elevation and includes a double-chamfered cavetto
moulded 3-light mullion window to the attic. The roof ridge
is broken by 5 axial stacks. 2 datestones are found in
garden: sundial (q.v.) 1641 on pedestal and "R.H. 1685" (R
Holte) on datestone.
