19/99 Gate Lodge

Lodge. Mid - late C19 for Nelthorpe Estate. Brick, in contrasting Flemish
bond to front, with sandstone ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof.
Jacobethan style. T-shaped on plan: 2-room east wing, single-room west wing
with entrance in angle and later extension to rear. 2 storeys, 2 first-
floor windows; wing to right slightly projecting. Chamfered plinth. Open
entrance porch (representing section of former veranda) with sloping roof
supported on cast-iron column; panelled door beneath lintel. 3-light ashlar
mullioned window to left with hood-mould. Wing to right has ashlar ground-
floor canted bay window with pointed lights and moulded cornice. First
floor: 2-light mullioned windows, that to right with hood-mould. All
windows with glazing bars, double-chamfered mullions and projecting sills.
Deep eaves; ornate fretwork bargeboards with gable finials. End stacks to
left and to rear, lateral stack to right return, all stacks slightly
projecting, with moulded cornices and twin diamond-shafted corniced
chimneys. Forms gate lodge to Scawby Hall.
