House, now 2 dwellings. Late C17 - early C18 with C19 alterations and
extensive C20 renovation. Rendered brick, pantile roof. Probably
originally 3-cell lobby-entry, now 2 direct-entry houses, with outshut
beneath catslide roof to rear. 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Deep
rendered plinth. No 2 to left has 6-fielded-panel door beneath divided
overlight, with sash with glazing bars to left. No 4 to right has 6-panel
door below divided overlight flanked by sashes with glazing bars. First
floor: tall sashes with glazing bars. Stone sills to all windows.
Dentilled eaves course. Swept roof with raised gable ends. External stack
to left and ridge stack. Interior: all original features noted by Neave in
1979 have been removed. The panelling and staircase in No 2 are insertions.
The massive brick fireplace in No 4 is entirely rebuilt. This building was
the Spotted Cow Inn in C19. Neave D, Howden Explored, 1979.
