Row of houses and shops. Early to mid-C18, altered early C19. Handmade
brick, partly painted, and slate roof with south end ridge stack and large
square stack at rear. Two storeys and attic. Two plus three bays; two-bay
part is flanked by brick pilasters at first floor level. Ground floor has
three canted bay windows with central 12-pane sashes and 8-pane side sashes.
(The lower sashes of the right bay window have been replaced with plate glass).
On the first floor are two large 12-pane sashes (one is partly altered), two
smaller 12-pane sashes and a 4-pane sash, all of which have cambered heads.
There are three skylights in the roof above. A continuous flat roofed canopy
runs the full width of the building above the bay windows and is supported on
shaped brackets at each end and at either side of the two doorways that flank
the central bay window. There is a six-panelled door (two panels are glazed),
a set of double doors and also a large ledged and battened door at the right
end. The canopy supports a wrought iron balcony to the first floor of the two-
bay part. There are two large wings at rear. At the gable end of the wing to
No 51 are tiers of pigeon holes.
