Farmhouse, now house. Probably C16, extended Cl7, mid-C19 alterations
and additions, restored late C20. Part dressed sandstone, part timber-
framed, some sections of timber-framing have been replaced, rendered
infill and painted brick infill on sandstone base with some brick replace-
ment walling and refacing, part brick; plain tiled roofs; large dressed
sandstone external chimney with rebuilt brick stack to north elevation,
also brick stack to south side main ridge and external stack to C19 wing
gable end. L-shaped plan; main range probably two framed bays with
through-passage, extended or rebuilt bay added to west gable end in C17
and large stack built onto north elevation; during C19 further brick bay
added at east gable end and brick wing added to south elevation of C17
bay to form L-shape; also new main entrance put in west elevation; single
storey and attic with dormers. Framing: exposed in north left side bay;
two panels from sill to wall-plate with large braces in lower corners.
Main south elevation: main range has two 3-light casements with cambered
heads, two gable dormers with 2-light casements, entrance in original
through-passage position with gabled canopy and door with raised and
fielded panels; C19 wing at left side has dentilled eaves cornice and,
in angle with main range, a 3-light ground floor casement with cambered
head, and a gabled half-dormer with 3-light casement. C19 entrance in
west elevation has a flat canopy, entablature and pilaster surround and
4-panelled door. Interior: roof has single trenched purlins and older
part has intermediate collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts;
sandstone chimney has pair of inglenook fireplaces at base. Under
restoration at time of survey (September 1984).
