Detached house, now 2 houses. C16 origins, substantially altered in
more than one phase during C17, front elevation rebuilt and roof
converted to a mansard in C18. C19 left hand extension. Brown brick
in Flemish Bond with red brick dressings; cement rendered ground floor
and basement. Plain bands at 1st and 2nd floor levels. Slated roof
with 3 dormers visible to rear. 3 storeys and basement. 5 windows plus
1 to to left hand extension and 3 to right hand projecting 2-storey
extension. Central entrance having 6-panelled door with overlight;
approached by steps. Flush-framed hornless sashes; upper floors under
gauged brick flat arches with keystones. Parapet. Rear elevation has
Artisan Mannerist brick doorcase with blocked windows above. Interior
features include date C17 dogleg stair with turned balusters and square
newels (Latimer House), plain panelling and cornices, chimney pieces,
doors. Holly House has a mahogony, panelled rear ground floor room
with folding shutters having H hinges, chimneypiece and 6-panel doors
with large cornices to cases. Attached garden walls to rear and
attached low wall to front with cast iron railings having torch flambe
finials and a good wrought iron gate with scroll-patterned standards
and overthrow with monogram containing the letters T,E and M. The
parents of Thomas Mawson, baptised 1684, were Thomas and Elizabeth.
