Circa 1800 symmetrical crescent. Some rebuilding after war damage, in particular
central block completely rebuilt in facsimile. Multicoloured stock brick with
parapets. Stone 1st floor cill string and basement. Each house 3 storeys and
basement, 2 windows, with set back 3 storey, 1 window entrance link (except Nos
21 and 42 which have entrances on returns). Single blocks, with square headed
windows, alternate with double blocks whose ground floor windows are round headed
in arcaded fronts with stone springing bands. Some of the single blocks retain
pedimented parapets. Roofs largely concealed but some visible slate mansards
with square dormers. Gauged brick arches to sash windows, most with glazing
bars and most replaced. Stone cills. 3 steps to round headed doors in round
arched recesses. Doors of 4 or 6 panels, some with panels glazed, cornice heads
and semicircular fanlights. Nos 28 and 33 have lost inner door arch. No 24
has old patterned fanlight. Some other fanlights have modern decoration of
reproduction type. Cast iron hand and area railings with lancehead tall standards
alternating with linked, arrowhead shorts. Urn finials at angles and intervals.
North return of No 21 3 storeys, 3 bays. Round arched tall, central recess under
pediment with stone cornice. Stone cornice also to parapet. Partly blocked
centre windows, lunette on 2nd floor and 3-light on 1st floor. Side windows
blank. Brick plinth. 4 steps, with cast iron rail, to door of 6 beaded panels
with side lights. Cornice head level with impost blocks of round gauged brick
arch. Wide, patterned fanlight. Similar door to North return of No 42, but
pattern gone from fanlight. 3 storey, 3 windows, all blank with stone cills.
Stone plinth. Small door inserted at left.
Nos 21 to 42 (consec) form a group.
