GV II


Barn and stable; early C19, stable late C17. Brick-nogged
timber-framing to stable, Flemish-bond brickwork on stone plinth to
barn. Tiled roofs. Five-bay barn, single-bay stable on end.
Facade away from house: double-boarded doors in centre, small door
cut in left half: stone hinge blocks, segmental brick-on-end arch
over. Either side walls between trusses slightly recessed (50mm),
forming about 140mm thick panels, every third course rows of
missing bricks as air vents, above low solid base. At top of left
end 2-light window. Circular owl-holes in gables. On right end
lower lofted stable, framing 2 panel high to ground floor, doorway
against barn on left, air vents in panel above, with pitching-hole
to right. Internally, stone-paved threshing floor to barn, brick
spur walls either side; loft added on left. Trusses either side
threshing floor tie-beam, collar and angle struts: one bay back
king-post with 2 pairs angle struts. Two pairs purlins, long
windbraces from wallplate to plank ridge cut rafters.
