House, now 2 houses. Late C16 open hall house with earlier W crosswing,
mid C17 storied NW wing and E bay beyond service end of hall, early C18
inserted floor in hall range and decorative brick casing to NW wing,
early C19 brick front, tilehanging to crosswing, and subdivision for
cottages. Timber frame with red brick infill exposed externally only on
N wall, and E gable of NW wing. Red brick with red tilehanging to upper
floor of W crosswing. Steep old red tile roofs. A 1 1/2 storeys T-plan
house with storeyed W crosswing, facing S. Hall of 2 unequal bays,
structural cross-passage, and E service bay of same width as passage,
later supplemented by an extra E bay. Formerly jettied projecting 2-bays
W crosswing has 2-storeys taller wing attached at N end at right angles
as extra parlour wing. Irregular S front with 2 2-light casements and RH
part projects as a catslide outshut. 4 2-light swept dormers in line. W
side to road has 3-light leaded casement in tilehung 1st floor of
crosswing and projecting 2-storeys brick clad end of NW wing on left. 2
C18 2-light leaded casements with cambered arches on 1st floor. Ground
floor altered and now has 3-light leaded casement in blocking of a
larger opening. N wall of this wing has chequered brickwork with
vitrified headers, a 2-light similar leaded casement on each floor and
lean-to on left enclosing massive E chimney in timber framed, brick
nogged gable. Rear wall has exposed frame on upper floor. This has
4-centred ovolo moulded plastered brick fireplace on 1st floor and axial
floor beam with ovolo and single fillet moulding. W crosswing has jowled
posts, clasped-purlin collar and tie-beam trussed roof, exposed wattles
in infill panel, cross-beam with curved brace and joists.
