House and 2 adjoining barns. C15 open hall house, floor and chimney
inserted in 2 stages in later C17, rear-outshut to hall in C17 red
brick, C18 red brick casing to S half of front, C19 plum brick casing to
N end. Steep red machine-made tile roofs. C18 timber framed, dark
weatherboarded barn with half-hipped corrugated asbestos roof linked to
S end of house by lower barn with old red tile roof with carriageway
into yard occupying N half of building. A large 1 1/2 storeys house facing
W with weatherboarded barn range extending to S. Internal chimney and
lobby entrance with stair a third from N end and kitchen chimney at S
end. Irregular front with lower floor in S kitchen end reflected in
lower eaves to advanced front wall. This part has a plank door with
tiled hood leading into a stone floored kitchen lit by 3-light,
small-paned, casement window to RH under segmental arch. Centre has
chequered red and black C18 brickwork, 3-light ground floor casement
window and gabled dormer rising through the eaves with 3-light casement
and tilehanging over. Front door to LH with moulded flat hood and
2-light window under eaves above. 3-light casement to N room set higher.
N gable window to 1st floor. Large gabled dormer at rear to S end 1st
floor. Structure exposed inside of 2-bays hall at N and a narrower third
bay on S. Heavy box-frame construction but middle truss of hall has
jointed cruck blades linked by an arched braced collar. Each bay has an
intermediate principal and each half-bay has arched wind-braces. All
members are hollow chamfered and the carpentry is of the highest quality
of finish. Floor inserted into hall in stages with fine double-ovolo
chamfered beam in N bay, but simpler chamfered and stopped beam in
middle bay. Clasped-purlin construction in N end truss. Timber frames of
kitchen end massive but of rough finish. (RCHM Typescript).
