Terrace of 4 cottages. Circa mid to late C17. Rendered timber frame.
Steeply pitched pantile roof with gabled ends. 2 red brick axial
stacks. Plan: Terrace of 4 cottages of 1-room depth; each cottage
having principal room heated from back-to-back fireplaces in 2 axial
stacks and narrow unheated service rooms to right or left. Circa late
C19 or C20 outshut behind the right end. Exterior: 1 storey and attic,
not quite symmetrical 7-window front. C20 2-light casements with
glazing bars and 4 C20 glazed doors. 4 small gabled dormers symmetrically
arranged just above eaves with 2-light casements. Attic casements
in gable ends. Small 2-light casements at rear and old plank
back doors; weatherboarded rear outshut to left. Interior: Floor
supported on chamfered axial beam in each room; fireplaces mostly
blocked. Timber frame partitions between rooms survive intact. Some
exposed wall framing and rafters but attics ceiled. Some circa late
C17 plank doors with wrought iron hinges.
Note: The terrace may have been built as almshouses.
