A good example of increasing affluence displayed in improvements to the house. C18 red brick house in Flemish bond with dentilled brick eaves cornice and first floor band. The windows appear to be sashes with glazing bars. Above the door the continuous brickwork is recessed, and is designed to indicate a former window. This hints at the origins of the house as an early C18 thatched cottage with three dormer windows in the first floor. Later, this would be built higher and roofed with slate. The door has lost its listed C19 wooden trellis porch but a doorcase with pilasters and a bracketed hood is revealed. The doorways to the adjacent carriage house carry on the design with panelled doors, pilasters and architrave. This is an early C19 build with larger bricks, in Flemish garden wall bond. The mid C19 garden wall in front of the house employs standard size bricks with a moulded brick coping. (Photo Apr 2014).
