Church C14 and C15, altered C17. Rubble stone and ashlar. Tower, nave,
N aisle and chancel. Buttresses or diagonal buttresses with many set-offs
overall. 2 stage C14/15 tower with Perp W window, W arch to nave, 1 light
bell-openings and battlements. Recessed spire rebuilt in 1889 (date
plaque in churchyard). Nave C15 parapetted, all windows altered in C17
by substitution of central mullion for tracery. S porch, possibly C17.
Clerestory of 5 square-headed 2-light mullions, possibly C16. Roof of
re-used C15 or C16 timbers finely moulded with carved central grotesques.
3 bay N arcade of diamond piers with arches dying into them. N aisle of
C14/15 with windows lowered or blocked and roof, once gabled now lean-to.
N doorway with Tudor arch, now blocked. Fragments of tomb recess and
pinnacles under 3-light window. Chancel of C15 with battlements and E
pinnacles, possibly C19. On S wall an altered window. Perp E window
of 5-light and panel tracery, otherwise blocked windows and doorway.
Chancel roof with tie beams and clasped principal rafters. Flat beam
between nave and chancel and C19 strength ening arch. C18 chancel rail
with turned balusters and complete set of C18 box pews. Font of c1662,
though partly made-up. Incised slab to cleric of 1500. Double incised
slab raised up against blocked N door. Floor of square brick tiles.
Leaded light glazing, diamond in clerestory, possibly C16, otherwise
square and possibly C17. An interesting example of a church altered in
C17 with fittings of C18. Pevsner.
