House and barn. House is possibly late C17-early C18 in origin but altered and
extended early-mid C19. Some casements renewed C20. Barn is late C16-C17.
HOUSE is of red brick, with some C18 brick and vitreous headers to left wing and
rear. Plain tile roofs with brick gable copings and chimneys. Irregular
T-plan, with later outshot in narrow left angle, and additional C19 wing
projecting to rear. 2 storeys. 2-bay wing projecting to left has large
external chimney stack to front gable. Either side of stack are stone
surrounds of former C17-C18 windows. Right return of wing has early-mid C19
sashes, mostly 4-pane but with 5-pane sash to ground floor left. Other ground
floor window has segmental arch. Set back to right is the other main wing, with
2 bays of C20 transomed wooden casements, 3-light to ground floor, 2-light
above. Lower windows have segmental heads. To centre of this wing is a blind
first floor window panel and a C19 6-panelled door in fine wooden doorcase.
This has panelled reveals, Doric pilasters, entablature and moulded pediment.
Attached to left end of house is a 5-bay BARN which has substantial timber
framing with diagonal braces, brick infill and stone plinth. Plain tile roof.
Lower walls and second bay are part rebuilt in brick. Interior of house may be
of interest.
